Company Profile.
SLM AFRICA is located in Newcastle Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. The SLM patented laser and datum ring technology was developed originally in Australia. We have the ability to machine circular surfaces to precise flatness tolerances from 1.8 to 45 meters in Diameter and rectangular faces of up to 16x11 metres. Our main area of activity in Africa is the Mining, Hydro Power and Off-shore Industry. We machine dragline bases and revolving frame roller-paths, rack and hook rails and machinery deck pad areas.
Shovels are a big area of activity where we machine the upper and lower slew ring bearing surfaces to OEM specification and the track frame on the car body. In Hydro Electric Power Plants, we have successfully machined the clearance diameters and O Ring grooves for the Turbine section of the spiral casing embedded parts and the height controlling elements of the Top Cover and Bottom Ring. Off-shore we machine slew-ring bearing surfaces and turret mooring systems. Other areas include gyratory crushers and any circular face, flat, angled or stepped.
The SLM technology has spread to many parts of the world and now has bases in Houston Texas, USA,
Singapore, Abu Dhabi UAE, Bangalore India and Australia.
Strengths & Services
SLM specializes in large-scale, precision on-site machining with a range of customised laser-guided and electronically controlled circular and linear machining equipment, capable of machining to diameters of up to 45 metres and areas of up to 16x11 metres in a single set-up. We utilise proven laser surveying and alignment techniques to ensure exact positioning and the highest quality results with repeatability and accuracy.
Detailed measurements are made prior to any machining work. This data is then utilised in discussions with the client in order to determine the best machining solution. During machining, clients are encouraged to witness the process and review the post machining data. At the end of a project, an in-depth final report is compiled and submitted to the client.
